Just read up on IFS. Basically kernel modules do the same thing. If you
have the src tree for your kernel I believe you can compile more modules
without recompiling the whole kernel (you also need the config file
which can be got from /proc/config.gz on some kernels.)

IIRC HPFS is in the kernel. I'll check later.
