Hey Ben,
Get an apple, running latest version of OSX, it literally kicks ass. you
get your terminal, it runs unix, you can't go wrong. once you go apple
you'll never go back. Only issue may be price, but there are a few second
hand ones floating around, and they tend to hold their value, unlike other
makes.
Kind Regards,
Mark B.

Subject: [plug] Linux on Laptops
Hey guys,
Starting a new thread for a related topic (old one was "Buying a Laptop").
My questions:
Is there anything new I need to consider when using linux on a laptop
instead
of a desktop?
I am pretty confident with linux on desktops. Kernel compilation is not a
problem and dont mind tweaking things via text files.
I use Slackware linux and/or ArchLinux and have used HEAPS of other distros
before. Basically I want to make sure some of the laptop specific things
work
properly for me.
I have already thought of a few things:
CPU Freq. Scaling
Battery monitoring
PCMCIA auto detection of new devices
ATI Mobility FireGL T2 graphics (FLGRX ??) <- want acceleration
(ie... dont wanna use ati in xorg.conf)
Can you guys point out how to do these things?
Are any distros best for laptop linux? i heard ubuntu is great and it has
flgrx in its repositories...? would prefer to use slackware and i noticed
flgrx was in linuxpackages.net...
thanks in advance
