[plug] Mono on Debian/Ubuntu on AMD 64

Ok. The problem. No .debs for Mono on a 64bit system. Using apt-src it
downloads the src for mono 1.0.5 and fails to install it no matter
what I do.
Download manually the src for 1.1.8.1 and it compiles and installs
with a ./configure; make; make install.
Now how can I get it to create a .deb from that so that I can do
normal apt-get installs so that for the apt packages that need mono I
can install them properly? And so that I can get dependencies working?
