I attended the MINCS Installfest at Murdoch Uni this afternoon - Milan also showed up - it was a
relatively quiet event but it was very interesting.
MINCS is in the process of being resurrected by the current members, and they are also seeking new
members and they are open to approaches from the general public who would like to become members or
just want/need help with Linux related issues.
I had several discussions with members of MINCS about Linux and computing in general.
The guys at MINCS are very friendly and are a bit more casual and laid back than PLUG members - but
they are a great bunch of people. They are very willing to help and have excellent facilities
available to them at the venue.
In fact they are also willing to work in with PLUG to serve the common interest of members and
promoting Linux - so much so that they are willing to share their facility for seminars and
presentations - which PLUG have always been very good at organizing in the past.
Perhaps there could be a mutual benefit here for both groups and their members.
The facility is ideal - it has an overhead projector and good potential for internet/network access
(subject to arrangements being made before hand) there is plenty of space for various activities
with tables and chairs that can be re-arranged to suit any purpose. There is also a large
undercover area for informal gatherings.
There is a cost involved with use of these excellent facilities ( a small amount), but I consider
that the cost is well worth the facility that is available and the time that the facility is
available for use. Especially on weekends - 12 noon to midnight is not unusual.
Access to the venue is very easy (30 metres from the access road) and there is plenty of parking
available within 50 metres.
If any one is interested in having the two groups come together for mutual events like installfests
and seminars etc.. I have the contact details for one of the committee members, just email me off-
list and I will send the details to you.
You can also visit the newly rebuilt web site for MINCS at :

I think this is an excellent opportunity for the two groups to work together to promote the cause
of people and Linux.
I accept that this may not suit all members of PLUG but I am trying to consider the greatest
benefit for as many people as possible, with PLUG north of the river and MINCS south of the river
the two groups could cater for a larger following of Linux users and people could attend one or the
other or even both and gain a wider experience.
I do not want to get caught in the politics between the two schools of thought that prevail here
and will probably be flamed for this post - but that's life. I do it for the good of people in
general and for Linux.
Regards Arie
