Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that PLUG will be having its first seminar for
2005 tonight in the Staff Room of Highgate Primary School, on the
corner of Bulwer Ave and Lincoln Street. If you are having trouble
finding the venue tonight, contact me on 0402 291 684.

With two talks lined up, we'll be kicking off earlier than usual, at
7:00 PM. Our first talk will be a venture into the strange world of
GUI development:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Title: The Clubber's Guide to Rapid Application Development
       with GNOME and Python
When: Tuesday, 15 March 2005, 7:00pm - 7:45pm
Presenter: Davyd Madeley

Davyd Madeley, GNOME Hacker, Perthite and Gentleman Spy Extraordinare
introduces people to the steamy underground world of rapid application
development with Python and the PyGTK toolkit. This talk aims to be
very accessible to everyone, including those who don't even know or
like Python. A must-see for everyone vaguely interested in programming
with the best GUI toolkit available today!
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following this, we'll be having the presentation which was supposed to
be on for the last couple of months, taking a look at revision control
systems for less centralised software development:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Title: Software Archery: hitting the bull's-eye with
       GNU Arch revision control
When: Tuesday, 15 March 2005, 8:00pm - 8:45pm
Presenter: Cameron Patrick

This talk will briefly describe the problem of revision control, and
explain some of the trade-offs in designing a trivial revision control
system and how just a few simple ideas can be combined to produce
something remarkably close to GNU Arch. After this, I'll describe some
of the concerns in using Arch in practice. A final section of the talk
will mention other contenders in the revision control world and the
situations in which you might want to use them instead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since we are holding two seminars in one evening, time may be rather
tight. Further questions for or demonstrations by the speakers may be
held at a nearby cafe or pub.

As usual, the details are all up on the PLUG web site:

Regards,

Bernard.
