Onno is probably right on this one but I think there was an error with
several of mkisofs/cdrecord combinations.

Dont take the following as gospel - its coming from a really shaky
memory of something I read but never experienced.

mkisofs wasn't padding the last sector in accordance with some
standard, and cdrecord recognized it - padding it ayway, and all
verifies failed.

It may also have been affected by the loopback driver aswell.
