Nah, I wrote it all up. The "backup device" was a VIA Mini-ITX in an AOpen case.
You came in the morning and the device was powered off. You swapped the drives and powered it on. At 
9pm it ran a backup and on success it powered off again. Booted off a 32MB CF card.
