try 'modprobe snd-pcm-oss' and then try to restart the soundserver on KDE.

OR

Select 'Advanced Linux Sound Architecture' in the 2nd tab of the sound server
setup dialog.

Basically the server cant seem to open the sound device because something is
locking it or it doesnt exist.
