I've found digiKam a good frontend for gphoto2.  I have a Canon Digital 
Rebel which I connect in normal mode.  Also a Fuji FinePix which appears 
as a usb storage device.  It needs to be mounted first but the Canon 
does not.  Both connect via usb.
