[plug] Error 25: Disk read error

I've recently bought some Dell servers (SC430), and I'm now in the
progress of installing Debian (Sid) on them.
Rather than do the install on each of them, I figured I'd install one
machine and clone it. So I moved the (SATA) hard disk drive from the
clonee to the cloner and ran dd, which took 91 minutes for an 80 GB
drive.
Put the disk back in the clonee, booted it up no problem and changed the
hostname to be different from the cloner. Rebooted, and now I get
greeted with "Error 25: Disk read error".
What did I do wrong? How can I fix it, preferably without doing it all
over again?
