I hate it when things get like this, don't you :-( I don't know what to
say, but whether I go via the gui or cli my clocks are all correct at
the mo'. 'hwclock' and 'date' all show the correct WST, agreeing with
my desktop clock. I did fiddle with commands like ``/sbin/hwclock
--systohc --utc'', and the like. Now it's working I don't want to
fiddle and break it again ;-)

LOL. Seriously, I reckon you'll have to dig deeper into local vs UTC
time in both hwclock and your gui. Sorry, can't be more helpful than
that, but I went through lots to get this right and I can't say what
actually did it the best for me :-/
