You need to edit /boot/grub/grub.conf (may be called menu.lst) as
root.
Entries are numbered from 0.
Near the top of the file will be a line
  default=n
the default 'n' being 0.  Change it to the appropriate number.  If
you make it too big grub will use the last entry.
