Try using a livecd to boot the system  or use your installation discs and 
choose the 'rescue' option if provided.

Then cd to the directory where grub lives - /boot 

Then type the command to install grub on the hard drive which has the 
partition which boots Windows - with XP it can only be C:

example :

grub-install /dev/hda1

check 'man grub'  just in case my syntax is not correct
