Has anybody here tried to configure a WBP54G (nominally a wireless-G
VoIP bridge) using Linux?
There's a Windohs program on a CD to perforam an installatio; the
process going through detecting the WBP54G on a wired network
(presumably by MAC and inherent product numbering) and then
configuring it for the WLAN.
The gadget appears to scan for access points and reports back the
available SSID to the configuration program. The program then
provides a means to set up WEP/WAP security parameters. (Despite
apperanaces, it also works with old 40-bit WEP Apple Airports if you
provide the short hex key.)
ISTM that those things should be possible using perhaps even a
telnet session into the wired point after setting an IP address
(arp -s IPNUMBER MACADDRESS) for it at the Linux end.
One could reverse-engineer a bit... using e.g. ethereal to figure
out the protocol. But I'm too lazy to repeat the work if it's
already been done by somebody else.
