I think there's something in /etc/sysconfig on redhat boxes for selinux. 
its literally a file that contains
selinux = 1
change it to
selinux = 0
and its off.

A little vague I know but I haven't run Redhat boxes in years and they 
seem to do everything just differently enough to offset you =)
