Many reasons..
but the main ones were:
Pia Waugh has hers hooked into evolution and says it's very reliable
(still can't do it on my end though :-P )
Good reviews all round and I liked the build quality.
Palm has a good history with Linux compatibility.
I've had an O2 XDA2 running the windows mobile OS, I'll never buy one
of those again.
