[plug] Python mysqld + mysql5.0

Hey,
I've written a fairly intensive script to do a bunch of stuff in python
-> a mysql server

Its developed to a usual mysql4.0 server and it all works honky dory.

HOWEVER

When I point it at the production server, which is mysql5.0 (huzzah for
flash over stability) 
It crashes out with this;-

"Client does not support Authentication protocol requested by the
server; consider upgrading MySQL client."

So.... I upgraded dev db + clientlibs to mysql5.0 out of the dotdeb
archives and yeah.

:( Still no dice.

Anyone know where I might fix this? I'm pretty baffled
