I use the 1410. No problems scanning (Sane through Gimp or Kooka) or 
printing (Cups). (OCR'ed some scanned text just fine too.) Really easy 
to set up (as I recall, install aptitude install hplip and configure 
everything through the KDE Control Centre).

Avoid Lexmark, and not just for the sake of compatibility.
