Maybe something like this?

* Make a copy of the image in a separate layer
* From the topmost layer, select the area to clone into with a feathered 
lasso and cut it out
* Move the bottom layer around until an appropriate area is shown 
through the hole cut out of the top layer

Just an idea, I don't know if it fits what you saw.
