Hah - Is that why so many programs just ship with their own DLLs? 
Because they're all so perfectly backward compatible?

Linux usually achieves a better effect by naming libraries on the system 
by the major version libc-2.3.5.so for example and providing symlinks 
where appropriate, a concept still lost on M$.
