[plug] Ubuntu 5.10 screen resolution prob

Greetings folks,

I have just decided to try out Ubuntu again and have installed 5.10 in
a VMware session.
Having got it working I decided to change the screen resolution and
while doing so changed the refresh rate from 56 to 60. This all went
well (including when it did the test) until I restarted the system.
Now after logging on I get a screen full of subbish. I can log in with
safe mode text console and am looking for where to change the settings
back to default. Any hints, BTW, what is the default root PW?
