[plug] server problem; possible faulty controller card.

Yes, compile support into the kernel for the card or install the module.
Power down. Swap controllers, so pull the old one out, power up and
cross fingers. Leave both controllers supported in the kernel just in
case you have to roll back.

I would suggest Adaptec cards (if they make SATA paddle-boards, I'm not
up with the latest SATA stuff). They generally have the best support and
their drivers for Linux are usually decent.

Mike.

Subject: [plug] server problem; possible faulty controller card.

Has anyone run into the following error messages? I posted this before
and checked everything everyone suggested:
I've checked memory (replace them); fans are okay, system is not
overheating, etc.
When the server boots there are error messages associated with the
Promise Fast track S150 TX2 Plus SATA Controller. A series of IOCTRL
errors appears. I've noticed that certain commands do not work but only
the basic ones do (mainly alias commands do not work).
Users cannot get e-mail as the postfix/mailmonitor will not load. This
has been going on for 10 days and I need to get this fixed.
I've purchased another Controller (only the upgrade model is available
(Fast track 2300 SATA). This is for a RAID 0/1 which the current system
is using a RAID 1.
My question is how do I change the controller card and get the driver
loaded when the system will not boot completely with the new controller
card installed?
Do I have to install the card, run the CD to mount up and compile and
load the driver, then reboot and hope it comes up with the new driver?
