I've been running my own domain on an ADSL line for quite a few years now. The
big problem here (Kardinya) is completely shit power! Half a dozen outages a
month without fail. iiNet's ADSL service however, is no problem.

I host pix for a mate who's a professional photographer - currently 185,000 of
them. The first year he used my server he uploaded 160 Gb in 3 weeks. In spite
of the poor quality infrastructure (i.e. Synergy), he's happy because hosting
companies really don't want to know at those data volumes.

For the small amount of data which is really mine, the whole thing works like a
dream.

The server is Debian, and oldish but stable kernel, a pair of 20Gb drives (a
backed up onto b and vice versa) and a Gig of RAM. The filesystem layout is a
(minor) problem, but I'll replace the server in the next couple of months and
fix that problem.
