not true for all - my sony uses a windos driver to do it - under linux I
need a separate utility, however thats for an intel chipset.
It sounds like you have xinerama running. Remove any reference to it
from your xorg.conf and set it up in clone mode. Then use the thinkpads
hotkeys to switch displays if thats what they have.
There are plenty of sample xorg.confs on the linux laptop site you can
use for a template, or read up on it using "man xorg.conf"
