[plug] Partition/volume label change

Hi

Is there a command to change the label of a volume or partition?

I found mlabel, but cannot find the syntax for it.  The man page is 
useless.  It gives:
mlabel [-vcsn] [-N serial] drive:[new_label]

I've tried mlabel /dev/sda1 with and without : with no success.
How do you specify the drive or partition to use?

BTW I know the easy way out is to use Windows, where I can just rename 
it in explorer.
