I've used http://users.bigpond.net.au/cpuburn once or twice to test
CPUs, on Windows and Linux. I'm using it at the moment to test a
server I'm building.

I don't know how scientific it is, but it will load the CPU to 100%
for an arbitrary length of time, and claims to check for bad
calculations.
