[plug] broadband monitoring?

I find netspeed to be very good for this scenario.

It's a gnome applet that shows you both the up and down network speeds:
http://www.wh-hms.uni-ulm.de/~mfcn/netspeed/

Ubuntu:
apt-get install netspeed
