Hi all,
Thanks for the recommendations and help - it's much appreciated! Sorry
about the delay - life at Pie has been busy with the release of the
webphone!
Anyway, I ended up settling on a Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX
(product info at:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2204,CONTENTID=11932).
Thanks particularly to Mark for pointing me at the supported hardware
list - it was invaluable.
Once I got the device home, I plugged into the USB port and it was
recognised immediately by Kubuntu. Whilst the video component was easy
to test (just looking at the device settings in Kopete did the job),
I've not managed to get the audio working as yet. I'll hopefully get to
this in the next day or so.
One other thing, using Kopete with MSN doesn't work well unless you've
enabled port forwarding. I had to enable port forwarding for ports
6891-6901 for it to work correctly - otherwise it connected, you saw a
frame and then the picture disappears. More info available here on the
KDE wiki: http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Kopete%20Webcam%20Support
So, all up - at least so far - relatively painless solution!
