Bridged networking in itself doesn't seem to be a problem when 
communicating with other systems on the network - only when 
communicating with the 'current' host (ie. the host hosting the VM).

Host-only networking isn't going to work properly for what I need - I 
need to be able to talk to the 19 other systems as well.  I suppose I 
could use host-only with NAT...

Mike - do you mean the 'any-any' patch for vmware?  I had to apply that 
also.  Any luck finding more info?
