I have resolved my problem with screen resolution on my 19" Samsung LCD.
My mobo uses a Radeon X1200 graphics chipset, formally used in laptops.
I downloaded files for the laptop X1200 as well as the "fglrx" drivers :
kmod-fglrx-8.40.4-2.2.6.22.9_91.fc7.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-drv-fglrx-8.40.4-2.lvn7.i386.rpm

Installed them both and then ran aticonfig.
I now have 1440x900 screen resolution - this chipset does not support any
of the desktop effects including 3D effects.
Thanks to those that tried to help.
Regards Arie
