I have the LiDE60... it just works.

Plug it in, Ubuntu detects it (doesn't display any message saying 
"Scanner found" though), so I open XSane or GIMP and scan away.

That's it, done :)

I haven't tried the OCR function yet so I can't say how well it does/n't 
work
