Thanks for that, Arie! While not the solution, it did reveal what the 
problem is. If I go the the Freezone contents page and tunnel down to 
ftp://ftp.iinet.net.au/linux/ubuntu-cd-images/ there is nothing there. 
The page is blank. But your link took me to the images for Intrepid 
straight away. A bit of investigating showed that I have to go to the 
blank images page, then *refresh*, and it all magically appears. Weird.
