No problem. You can still do something like

sudo chgrp vboxusers windowshdd.vdi
chmod g+rwx windowshdd.vdi
sudo ln windowshdd.vdi /home

Then you can just get each user to import /home/windowshdd.vdi into 
VirtualBox.
