Check system log files for anything useful or informative. Use any
tools that are provided by the controller/hdd manufacturer (e.g
MegaCLI, smartmontools) to determine if there are any hardware
failures or if any components are degraded (e.g. controller cache
batteries dying may slow down or even disable read/write cache).
