Canon MP630 driver problems with Ubuntu Jaunty (continued)
Hope your camp down south was successful, Nick although I seem to
remember it was
a wet and windy weekend.
After downloading the Canon drivers found at:
http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0031301.asp
Opening MP630_debian_drivers.tar and installing:
scangearmp-common_1.20-1_i386.deb and
scangearmp-common-mp630series_1.20-1_i386.deb
The scanner became accessible with scangearmp which is a fair
replacement for xsane which still does not recognise the scanner. I'm
happy with that.
So that's good news but I still need some serious help with printing if
possible please.
MP630_debian_drivers.tar also contains printer drivers.
I've installed
cnijfilter-common_3.00-1_i386.deb and
cnijfilter-mp630series_3.00-1_i386.deb
Chnaged directory to:
DebDriversMP630/DebianPrinterMP630/cnijfiltercommontar
and endeavoured to change the printing driver to ppd by executing:
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd
(copying a procedure from Ubuntu Forums which was claimed to work)
Which produced the following:
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 1: *PPD-Adobe::
command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 2: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 3: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 4: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 5: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 6: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 6: you: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 7: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 8: *%: command not found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 8: either: command not
found
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 9: syntax error near
unexpected token `at'
./cnijfilter-common-3.00/ppd/canonmp630.ppd: line 9: `*% (at your
option) any later version.'
This didn't seem right, didn't work anyway, so I tried the Cups
Administration 'modify printer' section
which allowed me to browse to canonmp630.ppd and install it that way.
This produced the message:
Printer State: Idle - Unable to open device
"hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_172e_12CEC8_if1_printer_noserial":
Permission denied
If this is only a permissions problem, how is it resolved? It seems I'm
nearly there?
I apologise for this long winded post but I'm stumped.
Regards
Dave Dartnall
