Yes, was about 2000 when I installed and tested it alongside gnu
HTTPtunnel.  One end used to take packets on a port, encode it into an
email and send it, and a server application at the other end would do
the reverse.  Was aimed at telnet/short messages to control something -
but really a "curiosity" than useful.  I think it used to be called
emailtunnel, but the keywords are far to common for google to find for
me.
