I would assume it would be faster. AFAIK there are no direct submarine
cable links from Perth to the US. The following map suggests this is
the case:

Your package would not have come from Hong Kong as Amazon does not
have any fulfillment centers there.


However, if what you bought was via a "Merchant" or "Marketplace"
seller it could have been shipped from almost anywhere.
