Hi PLUGgers
I am in the planning stages of setting up a virtual host and would like some
advice on configuration.
Current plans:
Host is Ubuntu LTS or Debian stable or Ubuntu 10.10 depending on
compatibility of hardware and OS.
I will probably be using virtual box
Hardware:
Core i7 extreme
24 GB RAM
2 X 1TB HDD Raid 1 - boot and some long term storage
4 x 60GB SSD in RAID 10
Virtual Clients
OS 1 - I am not sure as it will not be installed by me but I do know it is
an Linux based oracle DB so I assume it will be Oracle Linux. So I think
Oracle's Virtualbox is probably compatible.
OS 2 - Will be a debian mail server. Not doing much other than SMTP, local
POP and off-site rsync client.
OS 3 - In the future will be a Windows server 2008 x64. At some stage in the
next year or 2 they will have to upgrade to different version of the
database that is no longer Linux compatible. :(
My questions are:
How would a 15 user (max) DB go as a virtual guest with the above specs?
What considerations should I do in regards to formatting and stripe size?
Any other issues I should know about or consider?
Kind Regards
