I seem to remember mention in one of "The Goon Show" episodes, of 
payment being made with a photostat of a 50 pound note, for which a 
photostat of a receipt was given.

As parliamentary proceedings appear to make "The Goon Show" appear 
formal and authoritative, no doubt, in Australia, a scanned image of a 
$50 note that was sent in a card (it is illegal to send cash through 
postal mail, but not via email), would be accepted (and, the reserved 
bank does not seem very bright, anyway).
