in my experience, yes, apart from dumb stuff like: 

     - distro specific configurations for some applications
     - applications that don't handle version jumps very well 

YMMV of course. 

If you used LVM, snapshot your original data before hand (you left space right?) ;)

Hi all. I'm wanting to go back to Ubuntu after using Linux Mint for a
few months. I have /home on a separate partition, so can I get away
without formatting /home but installing ubuntu onto / ? Will that keep
(most of) my settings and programs?
