Oracle to debut on Linux platform

Enterprise database company Oracle is extending its range of platforms for
its database software and related tools to include Linux. Oracle expects to
release Oracle 8i for Linux next month, followed mid-year by the Enterprise
Development Suite and visual development tools running under X Window.
"Linux is going to be very, very big," said Oracle's regional marketing
manager for Intel solutions, Jason Fedder. Release 11 of Oracle Financials
will be available for Linux around August, he said.
