Thanks for scoping it out, Paul. Sounds like we're best off not competing
with the dance, so this time next week the PLUG meeting venue will be
at the UWA Cameron Hall loft, care of the UCC: http://www.ucc.asn.au/
This should fit in nicely with the UCC's series of tech talks, recent
highlights including an introduction to Python and the intersection of
encryption and the law. (Sadly not recorded as far as I know, but there
may be some slides?)

Details are on the PLUG calendar as usual, which you can see on:

PLUG Talk - AV Project
When: Tue, 14 August, 19:00 - 21:30
Where: UWA's Cameron Hall loft - upstairs from UCC, Hackett Drive Entrance #2
	Crawley, Western Australia
Description:
Euan De Kock and Jason Nicholls on PLUGs Audio Video Project. The talk
will discuss the PLUG AV Team, the technologies we are using, how we
film and record the audio, how we stream it, and convert the final
file. We'll cover Audio and Video formats, The dvswitch tools, ffmpeg
etc. We'll look at the hardware stack, Firewire, DV Video standards,
and the audio mixing and recording stream. We'll also briefly cover
the tally light system and how we use mumble. Finally we'll take a
quick look at future directions, SDI, Flumotion and gstreamer. The
talk will be co-presented by Euan and Jason.

Unfortunately our regular City West Lotteries House venue isn't available
for the next three months at our usual time, which is why we were checking
out other ones again. If anyone has access to a suitable venue, such as a
mid-sized office conference room wired to some ADSL Internet connection,
committee at plug.org.au would love to hear from you - CWLH is lovely and
accessible, but it's not always available and it is $93.60 a go. Our
main requirement at an office-type venue is one or two local contacts
who can let us in and are hopefully keen to attend the meeting.

We're not tied to second Tuesdays forever, but we'll keep this month at
its scheduled time. If we get a chance to confirm the Internet access
at some stage it could definitely be handy. Thanks.

Nick.
