If you have 10 lines of code, and you have a patch that replaces 5 lines
with a new five lines, the end result is still 10 lines of code. Does
that mean the patch has zero value? Or is the patch worth 5 lines of
code? Or is it worth 10 lines of code - since it has extra value in that
it must know what its replacing?

Hm. Ponderous.
