I'm not even convinced that AMD have released all the required specs.
AMD's proprietary driver does some secret magic that enables all sorts 
of power management goodies, yet even the guy employed by AMD to write 
and maintain their opensource driver has no idea how to do it or even 
get vaguely close.

Something smells pretty odd there.

Basically if your BIOS writer has not cut and pasted the AMD reference 
radeon power profiles then you are SOL and the driver will try its 
hardest to toast your hardware. Yay for opensource.

Of course you can install their proprietary blob driver and then your 
graphics will actually work. You may not be able to suspend or resume, 
but at least your machine won't melt.
