[plug] VBox guest additions

I'm having a problem installing Guest Additions in a Debian 7 VM.

The Guest Additions virtual disc is visible in Debian but I get IO failures
trying to read it.

I'm sure this is a combination of settings in the VM - the chipset
(currently PIIX3) or some other things but I can't get the right mix or
pick up a clue on the 'net.

Any ideas?
