Hey Dave

Happy to help and tell you what I know motherboard works Asus wise in Ubuntu

Firstly need more details
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit ?
What CPU are you using ?
What's your budget?
And I assume you just want Gigabit Ethernet speed?

With out knowing the above I will jump ahead. Nearly all those ASUS and
Gigabyte AM3+ mainboards useuse Realtek 8111f
which doesn't work in Ubuntu 12.x out of the box and heaps of complaints on
forums about it.

What you will find from reading up is Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 doesn't support
this Network card Realtek 8111f default install.
http://www.twm-kd.com/linux/realtek-rtl81688111e-and-ubuntu-linux/

I can confirm how ever Debian 7.0 Wheezy 64bit works out of the box with
Realtek8111f/8168 Gigabit network card
I am using this in my VMware Server

If you confirm those questions at the top I can confirm the information and
network support

Cheers Paul
