I've been playing with Sandstorm as a solution to this sort of problem. They've got a bunch of apps that play nicely with the server, including a bunch of file storage/file sharing ones:
https://apps.sandstorm.io/?host=https://oasis.sandstorm.io

You don't have to use their hosting, a common pattern is to set this up
on a Digital Ocean Droplet (or cloud VM of your choice, obviously).

Might be worth taking a look at...
