Hello PLUG
The PLUG committee discussed an Installfest event and https://endof10.org/ was
good motivation to make it so.
We have a venue that https://jafwa.asn.au/ have generously offered to share.
---------------------
PLUG Installfest
Saturday, 30 August 2025
Starting TBD until 4.00pm (last installs start 3pm)
Collins Street Centre
Cnr Collins St and Shaftsbury St
South Perth
Ample parking, wheelchair accessible.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/-31.980788/115.875957&layers=N
Bus:
Canning Hwy Before Collins St (Stop No: 10231)
Canning Hwy After Cliffe St (Stop No: 10338)
---------------------
Our planned Linux flavours are:
Mint (easy Windows transition)
Ubuntu (most popular and versatile)
Debian (most debian)
Opinions welcome.
What we need for the event is:
- to firm the start time. JAPWA starts at 12.30; we could book part of the
venue to start earlier. Opinions welcome.
- anyone who wants to assist on the day (or attend)
- the following equipment (either to loan or as a permanent contribution to PLUG):
- a small server like
https://reboot-it.com.au/products/hp-proliant-microserver-g10-opteron-x3421-2-1ghz-16gb-no-hard-drives-wty
- a wireless link Ubiquity or similar to cover 200m to access FttP nearby
(to loan on some day prior for testing and on 30 August)
- thumb drives preferably with the latest Mint, Ubuntu, or Debian Linux
Live installed
- network and power gear once our needs become clearer
Our usual promotions through Meetup, Google Calendar, and also endof10.org
Once we know the start time we can advertise and ask for installation
attendees to express interest (to initially gauge numbers).
All the best
Harry (PLUG OCM)
