Hi everyone. It has been a big year for Open Source Software, and we want
to keep that momentum going with upcoming events.
Lovely to see people this month at our second Tuesday meeting, preparing
for future workshops; and at PLUG-in-the-Pub this past Wednesday.
A nod to the Free Software Foundation <https://www.fsf.org/fsf40>, turning
40 in October. We have all felt the frustration of proprietary software
blocking access, breaching privacy, and becoming deprecated. A lot of
progress has been made to end these frustrations and the FSF are
encouraging LibreLocal <https://libreplanet.org/wiki/FSF40/meetups> and
other events over the year to celebrate.

Events from 2025 so farStalls
We have hosted a handful of Stalls showing off Open Source software and the
practical impact it can have on people's lives.
Geraldton in March and April
We had our first stall at the Geraldton Platform markets in January of this
year. This was to test the waters in showing off FOSS to the public. at the
stall we had:
-
People interested in Linux for gaming.
-
computers for their business in plasma and laser cutting, but was not
tech savvy.
-
One mentioned having one of the very very old computers when they first
reached Geraldton and wanted to see if it could get running again.
-
A few used Linux years ago and were interested in getting back into it.
One was surprised to know Ubuntu was still a thing, and impressed by the
working Microsoft Surface on display running linux smoothly.
Another stall was hosted again in April, with similar results.

Perth Design, Technology & Innovation Tradeshow in March
Thanks to Jacek, who shared his table at the *Perth Design, Technology &
Innovation Tradeshow* at the Quay in Perth, we were able to show off the
power of FOSS. Our aim was to find people who were passionate about their
business who could talk about the FOSS tools that helped make it happen.
We encountered one developer who worked on databases for a big
multinational. they were interested in seeing which of the tools they had
developed could be Open Sourced. Here is a perfect example of how a group
like PLUG can help promote Free and Open Source Software.
