<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">I use gkrellm to monitor my system and I saw a lot of cpu usage just after logging in.  I had not started any main applications.</FONT></P>


<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">I used "top" to monitor processes and the highest cpu usage was "kapm-idled".  It was running at 73% as root process uid 4.</FONT></P>


<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">I am using mandrake 8.1 and gnome.  I am not using kde desktop, but it is available.</FONT>

<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">I used "man kapm" but it returned nothing.</FONT>

<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">I assume this is something involved with the power monitor daemon apmd.   Is that correct?</FONT>
